Have you ever noticed some one who has something that you want? I do not mean material possessions, but I am speaking about their demeanor. This person isĀ dependable and trustworthy. They find ways to build other people up, oppose to knocking them down. They tend to be attentive listeners without being judgmental. Instead of self-seeking, they think on how they can help others. They are kind, and compassionate; one with a loving spirit. They do not intentionally cause harm to others, and they do not cause harm to themselves. This person happens to be you and me.
Even though we might be thinking these characteristics do not accurately describe who we are, that certainly can change the moment that we choose to go to any lengths to have emotional sobriety. In other words, we make a commitment to be transformed; we change inside, and as a result, our outward behaviors change too. Romans 12:1-2 (NRSV) “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God–what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Therefore, the opportunity to be changed is offered to all. The only requirement is for us to go to any lengths to take the suggestion. Are you willing? I certainly am.
