Have you ever postponed doing something, like living life, because you just could not handle how you would be perceived? I want to believe that most of us have had this experience; we procrastinate because of fear.
When I started this blog over a year ago I had some fear of how I would be perceived. That is, my past life had some dark times. As a result, I had come to believe that I would be judged by others. However, once I confronted my inner most fear to myself, that I was no longer the person I use to be, but a person of integrity, then I was able to move forward and help others by sharing my experience, strength, and hope. Sure people will want to remember what we use to be like, and that is okay. We have to make amends with self, and let go of the outcomes, especially if we expect to be of maximum service to God and to others.
Anxiety can keep us stagnated. In fact, fretfulness can cause us to conjure up a whopper of a story that is only real in our head. For this reason, we have to get genuine with ourselves about what is truly going on in our life; this will help to eliminate the angst. In the same way, when we can admit to ourselves, and to God, and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs, then we are on the road to recovery.
One of my favorite sayings is “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let our requests be made known to God” (Phil. 4:6 NRSV).
Therefore, when we trust the process, when we trust God, we can eventually trust ourselves. As a result, our apprehension is like a fleeting thought that has nowhere to reside.
